			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The City of Adel is pleased to announce that it will host a <strong>Sustainability Workshop on Thursday, August 26th at 5:30pm.</strong> The event will be held in the Community Room at the Adel Public Library.</p>
<p>This unique event is being coordinated by the Greater Dallas County Development Alliance and made possible by a $50,000 award from the Iowa Office of Energy Independence’s Iowa Power Fund Community Grant to create a sustainable training program for Dallas County communities/local groups that will include 17 general sustainability educational workshops and customized workshops on the areas of: renewable energy, green building and streetscapes, green housing, sustainable policy and planning, and sustainable economic development.</p>
<p>The main goal is to build capacity within local officials, community groups, and even businesses and residents which will allow them to develop a vision for sustainable initiatives and learn how to act upon their vision.</p>
<p>All who are interested in learning more about what Adel can do to become a more sustainable community is welcome to attend. Please RSVP to the Alliance here or to the City of Adel here.</p>
<p>Other communities in Dallas County will be holding similar education sessions, if you are not able to attend on Thursday, August 26thplease visit the Alliance website to learn about other events.</p>
<p>Another, <strong>Advanced Sustainability Workshop</strong> will also be held in Adel on<strong> Tuesday, October 5th at 5:30pm.</strong> This workshop will expand on the information shared in the first one.</p>

<p>August 3, 2010</p>
<p>Reviewed notes from June CSI meeting. (The July meeting was cancelled.)</p>
<p><strong>Hotel</strong></p>
<ul>
<li> At a previous CSI meeting, bringing a hotel into town was suggested.</li>
<li> Linda contacted Greg Hanis, the President of Hospitality Marketers International.</li>
<li> Website name is hospitalitymarketers.com</li>
<li> He proposed a feasibility study to determine what we actually need (vs want) and concerns.</li>
<li> It would take 6-9 months to create at a cost of $5000 &#8211; $7000.</li>
<li> Would need to determine who would pay – Chamber would pay a portion, city/businesses</li>
<li> Study would be created by a team and provide market description, site analysis, market overview, lodging demand, comparisons of surrounding area, issues/risks, and project recommendations.</li>
</ul>
<p>It was suggested by Bill Ludwig that we provide an idea of what we think we need (based on Bill’s past experience working on the Drake hotel project).</p>
<p><strong>Sweet Corn Festival</strong></p>
<ul>
<li> Press release provided to all attendees</li>
<li> Flyers provided to all attendees to post in their businesses</li>
<li> A request was made for volunteers</li>
<li> Volunteers are needed for shucking at 5:00 pm on Friday</li>
</ul>

<p><strong>Guest Speaker:  Amy Day from Simpson College</strong></p>

<li> Overview of past courses offered in Adel:</li>
<li> Business writing – 8 attendees</li>
<li> Intro to Management – 10 attendees</li>
<li> Plans for summer course were cancelled due to lack of sign-ups</li>
<li> Six people must register for the class to be held.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li> Fall, 2010 class offering – Business Ethics (1 credit course)
<ul>
<li>Class is on Mondays 6 – 8 pm from 9/13/10 through 11/1/10 (8 weeks)</li>
<li>Cost is $305 per credit hour.</li>
<li>Chamber members receive a $50 discount per credit hour.</li>
<li>Discount will also be given to a non-chamber member if more than two employees attend.</li>
<li>An audit rate of $175 per credit hour is also available.</li>
</ul>

<li> Spring, 2011 class offering – Business Law (2 credit hours)

<li>Class will be held 1/10/11 through 2/28/11</li>

<li> Simpson markets the classes through Adel Living, the Chamber website, current Simpson enrollees in Adel and surrounding communities, targeted companies, and word of mouth.</li>
